Catalina Foothills earned its spot in the state semifinals with a hard-fought 57–45 victory over Sunrise Mountain in the second round of the 5A playoffs, using defensive pressure and balanced scoring to take control in the second half.
The Mustangs came out aggressive, attacking the rim and battling on the glass, keeping the game tight through the first two quarters. Catalina Foothills responded with poise, settling in defensively and finding rhythm offensively to be behind leading into halftime.
The turning point came in the third quarter. The Falcons tightened up defensively, forced turnovers, and converted in transition. Quick ball movement and disciplined shot selection allowed Catalina Foothills to stretch the lead to double digits entering the fourth.
Sunrise Mountain made one final push, but the Falcons answered with key stops and clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the 12-point win.
With the victory, Catalina Foothills advances to the Final Four, continuing a postseason run built on toughness, teamwork and championship composure. The road now gets tougher — but the Falcons have proven they are ready for the moment.
